Construction Progress of Phnom Penh’s Drainage System Nears Completion

The ambitious project to build a comprehensive drainage system in western Phnom Penh is now 88% complete, with final touches expected to be finalised by July 2025.

During a recent review, Ms. Koy Sodany, Permanent Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the project leader, confirmed the significant progress. The initiative aims to construct modern drainage infrastructure and water management systems designed to mitigate flooding along National Road 4 and adjacent railway areas.

The project, undertaken by the PPPP-TCM Joint Venture, encompasses two major work areas. The first involves the construction of a long box culvert along the left side of National Road 4, stretching from PK 14+050 to PK 19+700. Meanwhile, the second consists of extensive rehabilitation efforts: 6100 metres of canal work, installation of 1970 metres of culverts, and construction of box culverts at nine locations, as well as four water gates along the railway from PK 15+450 to PK 23+550.

This large-scale installation of box culverts is expected to significantly reduce the risk of flooding in Kambol and Por Sen Chey districts. Furthermore, the initiative aims to enhance public health, improve hygiene, and support community welfare while maintaining the city’s aesthetic appeal. (Read more)
