Customs Revenue at US$2.6bn in 2022; 5.9% Earned From Construction Sector

In 2022, the General Department of Customs and Excise of Cambodia collected 10,998.9 billion Riels or about US$2.6 billion, an increase of 18.3% compared to 2021, according to the announcement of the General Department on 3 February. 

Revenue includes a value-added tax of 4,169.8 billion riels (37.9% of total revenue), a special tax of 4,151.6 billion riels (37.7% of total revenue), and customs duties of 2,087 billion riels (19% of total revenue). 

Meanwhile, the additional tax on petroleum products was 367.2 billion riels (3.3% of total revenue). 

Revenue by a group of goods including vehicles and machinery was at 5,078.7 billion Riels (46.2% of total revenue), while mixed goods were at 3,032.6 billion Riels (27 6% of total revenue). 

The customs revenue from construction materials and other fees amounted to 649.5 billion riels (5.9% of total revenue). 

Meanwhile, the trade volume of imports in 2022 was recorded at US$25 billion, an increase of 11.9% compared to 2021, including vehicles and machinery, steel products, raw materials and machinery. 

The export trade volume was US$22 billion, an increase of 16.7% compared to 2021. 

Garment exports increased by 14.1%, non-garment investment products (such as electronic components, electrical wiring, bicycles, wood products, plastics, auto parts and other industrial products) also increased by 26.2%, while agricultural production increased by 6.6%. 

In 2022, Cambodia also broke its own internal record for the highest tax collection.  (Read more)
