Solar Power Plant in Siem Reap Goes Online, More Scheduled Nationwide

A 32-kilowatt solar power plant in Siem Reap province officially went online on 27 January, with three more large-scale solar power plants with a total output of over 110 megawatts scheduled to start operation across the nation in 2021.

Located at the Sok An Phnom Kulen Orchid Research and Conservation Center, the 32KW plant can generate approximately 150 kilowatt-hours per day, sufficient for daily use of air conditioners and water pumping.

The project is a joint venture between the Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and other partners.

Environment Minister HE Say Samal said at the inauguration ceremony that the solar station will help provide clean energy for the Research Center, a key government objective.

Ms Sonali Dayaratne, UNDP Representative in Cambodia, also praised Cambodia’s position in embracing clean energy as the solution to climate change.

Meanwhile, three other solar plants are scheduled to go online this year including a 20-megawatt solar station in Svay Rieng province, a 30-megawatt plant in Banteay Meanchey province and a 60-megawatt solar farm in Battambang province. (Read more)
