ASEAN Constructors Federation Drives Innovation and Unity at 56th Council Meeting in Malaysia

The ASEAN Constructors Federation (ACF) made significant strides at its 56th Council Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, achieving breakthroughs in safety standards, digital transformation, and sustainable practices. With representation from all eight ASEAN member states, the meeting highlighted key projects like Cambodia’s airport development and the 180-kilometre canal linking Phnom Penh to Kampot, alongside Malaysia’s innovative green materials use and Singapore’s advancements in smart city construction.

ACF leaders also introduced a regional initiative to harmonise safety regulations and unveiled a digital blueprint to modernise the sector. This event is a clear demonstration of ASEAN’s commitment to boosting regional collaboration and shaping the future of the construction industry.

The meeting fostered discussions on critical issues like technological advancement, green building practices, and the construction sector’s role in post-pandemic recovery amidst global instability caused by the Ukraine conflict and unrest in the Middle East. ACF President Oliver HC Wee emphasised, “The 56th ACF Council Meeting signifies more than a gathering of industry leaders; it is a beacon of regional unity and a collective push towards achieving unparalleled excellence in the construction sector.”

A major highlight was the launch of an ambitious program to enhance safety standards across Southeast Asia. This initiative aims to unify safety regulations, streamline knowledge exchange, and deploy advanced safety technologies.

Equally impactful, the ACF introduced a digital transformation blueprint to drive industry competitiveness through improved project management and global positioning.

Member countries presented their construction achievements, with Malaysia lauded for its sustainable use of green materials and Singapore recognised for its leadership in smart city infrastructure. Cambodia presented notable milestones, including a new airport project in Phnom Penh, the 180-kilometre canal development, and a revised investment law designed to attract foreign investors while ensuring adherence to construction regulations.

As the ACF 56th Council Meeting came to a close, the collective vision for an innovative and sustainable future was reinforced. The federation’s continued efforts are poised to elevate the ASEAN construction industry, fostering economic growth across the region while contributing significantly to global advancements.
