The ambitious second phase of the Bak Kheng water treatment plant is on the brink of realization, with construction reaching an impressive 95% completion, according to an update from the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation on 15 December 2023. Scheduled for inauguration in the first quarter of 2024, this crucial phase aligns with the government’s commitment to bolster Phnom Penh’s water infrastructure.

Remarkably, the successful drilling of a 540-meter-diameter water main pipe beneath the Tonle Sap River marks a significant milestone in the project. This intricate engineering feat, completed in tandem with the project’s progression, underlines the dedication to ensuring robust and reliable water supply systems for the capital.  (Read more)

The Bak Kheng water supply initiative, with its formidable production capacity of 195,000 m³/day in both phases, stands as a testament to the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority’s commitment to meeting the growing water demands of the city. Once operational, the combined capacity of 1 million m³/day will substantially enhance water service delivery, ensuring resilience even during periods of high demand, such as the dry season.
