Banteay Meanchey Irrigation Development Project Exceeds 64% Completion

The Irrigation Development Project for Flood Reduction (IDFMP) in Banteay Meanchey province has made significant progress, achieving a completion rate of over 64%. The project is on track for completion by mid-2026, as reported by a working group from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on 15 January 2025.

Progress highlights include:

  1. Restoration of Pools:

– Pong Pool: 100% complete

– Veang Heng Pool: 100% complete

– Kanseng Pool: 99% complete

  1. Canal System Development:

– MC1-1 Main Canal: 98% complete

– MC1-2 Main Canal: 85% complete

– MC2 Main Canal: 95.04% complete

– MC3-1 Main Canal: 36% complete

– MC3-2 Main Canal: 98.50% complete

  1. Art Structures:

– A total of 127 out of 216 planned art buildings have been constructed.

Funded by a concession from the Republic of Korea, this project is designed to manage water received from streams along the Cambodian Thai border effectively. Key infrastructures erected include:

– Irrigation canals spanning a total length of 87.6 kilometres

– Three pools: Pong, Veang Heng, and Kanseng

– The repair of the O Khai Don Pool

The project is expected to provide irrigation for 28,354 hectares of arable land during the rainy season and 13,827 hectares during the dry season, benefiting agricultural activities in Serey Sophorn City and beyond.
