Thanks to the booming construction industry, brick kilns in Cambodia have significantly expanded across the country to capitalise on this growth.

The number of brick kilns has grown dramatically over the last 10 years, as well as the means of production. According to Mr Veng Heang, Director of the Child Labour Department of Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, there are now over 300 brick kilns in Cambodia.

Earlier this month, Mr Veng Heang told Construction&Property Magazine that between 2008 and 2016, the number of brick kilns grew from 78 to 379, most of which are located in the provinces such as Tbong Khmum where there is a lot of construction activity.

The development of technology, such as the automated machines, has also transformed brick kilns and radically reduced the amount of labour required.
