Japan’s Robust Investment: US$706m Fuels Construction of Three AEON Supermarkets, Unveiling Plans for a Fourth Location by 2023

AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd., the Japanese retail giant has invested a substantial US$706 million in constructing three supermarkets in Cambodia as of 2023. This update was revealed during a productive meeting between HE Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister, and first Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Mr Tsboya Masayuki, Managing Director of AEON Mall on 1 February 2024.

The meeting aimed to seek guidance from the Deputy Prime Minister on AEON Mall’s ongoing and future investment endeavours in the country.

AEON Mall (Cambodia) Co., Ltd.’s initial investment included the construction of AEON Mall 1 on Samdech Sothearos Street in Chamkar Mon district. Recently, a decision to expand the ground floor and add 30 additional stalls was made to cater to growing demand and attract new businesses. (Read more)

The second branch, located in Sen Sok district and inaugurated in May 2018, saw an investment exceeding US$120 million.  (Read more)

Following this, the third AEON Mall, situated in the Meanchey district, commenced operations in April 2023 with an investment surpassing US$290 million, making it larger than its predecessors. (Read more)

A fourth AEON Mall is currently under consideration, with the upper district of Phnom Penh being a potential location. Although details about the investment amount and exact location are yet to be finalised, discussions and studies with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) are underway.
