Remarkable Progress: NR No. 31 at 23% and NR No. 33 at 31% Completion, Anticipating Early Success

The ambitious development of Cambodia’s infrastructure continues to soar as NR No. 31 and NR No. 33 showcase impressive construction progress. As of May, NR No. 31 has achieved over 23% completion, while NR No. 33 has surpassed the 31% mark.

These remarkable results, revealed during HE Sun Chanthol’s inspection visit on 30th May 2023, suggest the potential for both projects to be completed ahead of schedule, promising enhanced connectivity for the nation.

The ongoing restoration and quality upgrade of NR No. 31 have reached a commendable 23.12% completion as of May 26. Key milestones include the clearing and widening of the road, covering an impressive distance of 44.97 kilometers. Additionally, sub-base grinding work has been accomplished along 40.29 kilometers, while the sub-base itself has been successfully implemented over 15.43 kilometers.

Meanwhile, the restoration and quality enhancement of NR No. 33 have made significant strides, achieving 31.73% completion by May 25. The project’s notable accomplishments include the clearing and widening of the road, spanning an extensive 52.57 kilometers. Furthermore, sub-base grinding work has progressed along 46.54 kilometers, accompanied by the successful implementation of the sub-base across 31.44 kilometers.

These promising figures not only indicate the efficient execution of both projects but also provide an optimistic outlook for their completion well in advance of the agreed-upon timeline.

NR No. 31 stretches over a total length of 53.53 kilometers, linking Bek Kus Road (junction of NR No. 3) to Kampong Trach district town (junction of NR No. 33). Similarly, NR No. 33 spans 52.57 kilometers, extending from Kampot to the Cambodia-Vietnam border, including the road within Kampot (Road 709).

Undertaken by the esteemed China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC) and technically inspected by Guangzhou Wanan Technical Consulting, these transformative NR projects hold a construction period of 40 months, with completion scheduled for 2026.

The development of NR No. 31 is projected to cost over US$60 million, while NR No. 33 is estimated to require more than US$61 million. Facilitated by a concessional loan from the Government of the People’s Republic of China, in collaboration with the Royal Government of Cambodia, these investments underscore the commitment to addressing the nation’s infrastructure needs and fostering economic growth.
