Cambodia and Vietnam Strengthen Ties with Major Cassava Export Agreement

In a major step toward deepening agricultural cooperation, Cambodia and Vietnam have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost Cambodia’s fresh cassava exports to 9 million tons annually. The agreement was signed on October 23, 2025, in the presence of H.E. Cham Nimal, Minister of Commerce, alongside representatives from the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia, the Cambodian Cassava Federation, and the Vietnam Cassava Association.

The MoU outlines closer collaboration in cassava production, processing, and marketing, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral trade. Minister Cham Nimal expressed optimism that the agreement would elevate Cambodia’s cassava industry while deepening economic and agricultural ties between the two nations.

“This agreement marks a pivotal milestone in strengthening trade relations between Cambodia and Vietnam. By expanding cassava exports, we are creating new opportunities for Cambodian farmers and enterprises.”

said Minister Cham Nimal.

In addition to the main MoU, four Cambodian-Vietnamese companies signed commercial contracts pledging to purchase over 3 million tons of fresh cassava from Cambodia each year. This initiative is expected to deliver substantial benefits to local farmers, support rural livelihoods, and contribute to national economic growth.

The signing follows a successful trade mission to Vietnam in September 2025, where a delegation from Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce met with Vietnamese stakeholders to explore cassava market opportunities and establish long-term partnerships.

Through this strengthened collaboration, Cambodia and Vietnam aim to enhance agricultural productivity, promote sustainable trade, and build a resilient economic partnership that benefits both nations.
