Cambodia, China Agree to Strengthen BRI Cooperation by Building More Infrastructure

The leaders of Cambodia and China have agreed to continue promoting Belt & Road cooperation to build more physical infrastructure in Cambodia.

The remarks were made during a phone call between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Chinese President HE Xi Jinping on 18 March.

In the phone talk, the two sides appreciated the past cooperation in Belt & Road construction and urge more projects such as highways, airports and special economic zones.

The two leaders also plan to expand cooperation in emerging fields such as finance and the digital economy, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen said that the rapid growth of Cambodia-China bilateral trade and smooth progress of major infrastructure projects under the Belt & Road framework has demonstrated the achievements of their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the future of the jointly-built Cambodia-China community.

The Chinese side will carry out more cooperation with Cambodia to improve people’s welfare and implement such projects related to roads and education in rural areas.
