With the capacity to treat up to 5,000 cubic metres/day of wastewater, this plant is one of Phnom Penh’s largest wastewater treatment facilities. The project will be constructed on over 3 hectares of land in the Choeung Ek area using a US$27 million budget funded by the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The grant agreement was signed in November 2019. According to the initial plan, construction should have already begun in late 2020 but was postponed to April 2021 due to the delay in impact resettlement works. (Read more)

According to Department of Public Works and Transport Director Sam Piseth, this plant will be large enough to manage wastewater from big districts such as Chamkarmon, Khan 7 Makara, and Boeung Keng Kang.
