Cambodia Achieves Record Cashew Production of 840k Tons in 2024

Cambodia’s cashew industry has witnessed remarkable growth, with 840,000 tons of cashew nuts produced in the first ten months of 2024, marking a 26% increase compared to the same period last year.

This significant milestone, announced by Mr. Uon Siloth, President of the Cambodian Cashew Association, reflects the sector’s growing importance in the nation’s agricultural landscape.

Of the total production, over 790,000 tons were exported to Vietnam, generating USD 1.11 billion in revenue, a 31% year-on-year increase. Additionally, the total export value of Cambodian cashews rose by 9% compared to 2023, underscoring the growing demand for this vital crop in international markets.

The Cambodian Cashew Association is actively diversifying export markets, with processed cashew nuts now being shipped to China, Japan, and Europe. While these volumes remain smaller, they signal increasing interest and opportunities for Cambodian cashews on the global stage.

Mr. Siloth also highlighted rising interest from Chinese and Korean companies looking to import raw cashews for processing, further strengthening Cambodia’s position as a key supplier. The country boasts over 580,000 hectares dedicated to cashew cultivation, with an average yield of approximately 1.5 tons per hectare, reinforcing its capacity to meet international demand.
