Construction on Transformation of Century Plaza Market Launched

Construction officially started on 27 November for the transformation of Century Plaza market into shopping centre with the project scheduled to be completed in two years.

Phnom Penh Governor H.E Khuon Sreng urged the Century Plaza investor to accelerate construction by the end of 2021 as planned so that the vendors can re-enter the market soon.

The development of Century Plaza into a shopping mall is intended to improve order in the market area and to expose the area to foreign tourists. The current market area is in a state of disrepair, is regularly flooded by heavy rains and the disordered sales affect the traffic and foreign tourists, especially since the area is close to Phnom Penh international airport, H.E Khuon Sreng explained.

According to a report released by the Ministry of Information, there are currently 670 stalls at Century Plaza market which have been temporarily relocated to Por Sen Chey playground in front of the current Century Plaza.

Century Plaza is located along Russian Federation Boulevard, which is home to giants such as Booyong town and Prince Real Estate, and it is one among the oldest community markets in Phnom Penh. Consistent with the development of the capital as a whole, it is now evolving into a supermarket.

According to the Phnom Penh Market Review report by international real estate agency CBRE Cambodia, during the second quarter of 2019, four new community mall projects were announced with a total net leasable area of 28,444 square metres.
