China, Cambodia Reviews Detailed Master Plan to Transform SHV into Multi-Purpose SEZ

Officials of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, representatives of the Urban Planning and Design Institute of Shenzhen, Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, and entrepreneur associations have reviewed and collected more inputs for the draft master plan to transform Sihanoukville into a multi-purpose SEZ.

The discussion meeting was held on 15 March, co-organised by the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and UNIDO.

The purpose of the meeting was to collect inputs, experience, impacts and other issues from the private sector so that the draft master plan can be more compete and comprehensive before submitting it to the government for approval.

The multi-purpose SEZ is Cambodia’s mega project that aims to develop and transform Sihanoukville into a major economic zone in Southeast Asia and an advanced industrial zone that serves the regional and global production chains, through the usage of technology and smart equipment.

In June 2021, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen issued a sub-decree establishing a new inter-ministerial committee to speed up work on this project, in which the top three ministers were listed as co-chairmen. (Read more)
