Progress on National Road No. 23 Reaches 70% Completion

The ambitious construction project for the 20-kilometre stretch of National Road No. 23, linking Koh Thom and Loek Dek districts in Kandal province, has made significant headway, with approximately 70% of the work completed. According to a report by Cambodia National Television, the project is set to conclude in April 2025.

HE Phay Sovicheano, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, emphasised the importance of the road during the report. He noted that the new road will connect several key areas, including Saang and Koh Thom districts, the Chrey Thom International Gate, National Road No. 14, and the Neak Loeung Bridge.

“This section of National Road No. 23 is a ground-breaking development, as it has never been constructed before,” the secretary of state explained. He highlighted the inconvenience that residents previously faced, having to detour through Phnom Penh via the 2nd and 3rd ring roads to travel between Loek Dek and Koh Thom.

The project features two lanes in each direction with a total road width of 11 metres. The construction includes state-of-the-art 8-centimetre-thick AC asphalt pavement and the installation of four bridges. The project is funded by a concessional loan of USD 21.68 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), which officially began in June 2023. (Read more)
