Construction of US$32-million standardized irrigation system 75% complete

The construction of a US$32-million ADB-funded Prek Po irrigation system in Kampong Cham and Kandal provinces has reached 75% completion.

The construction progress was updated during the site inspection of relevant officials led by Kampong Cham Governor HE Un Chanda on 19 February.

The irrigation system will provide water to two districts, Srey Santhor district of Kampong Cham province and Khsach Kandal district of Kandal province.

The project consists of 12 main canals and 46 sub-canals with a total length of 105.37 km and pumping stations from the Mekong River. The whole system combined is capable of providing water to rice fields of 8,000 hectares in the rainy season and about 8,000 hectares in the dry season.

Implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, the construction began in May 2020.

As planned, construction would have already been completed, but due to the spread of the pandemic, it has been delayed.
