Digital Park Initiative Unveiled to Boost Cambodia’s Digital Literacy and Start-Up Scene

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia has announced an ambitious plan to establish a digital park aimed at enhancing digital literacy and fostering the growth of digital start-ups in the country. This initiative, inspired by Thailand’s successful Thailand Digital Valley project, was revealed by H.E. Hak Sokheng, Undersecretary of State of the ministry.

The proposed digital park is envisioned as a comprehensive support hub for digital entrepreneurs. It will provide essential services such as administrative assistance, compliance support, and connectivity to industry leaders while emphasizing digital skills education. The initiative aims to link aspiring start-ups with job opportunities and career development resources.

Undersecretary Hak Sokheng highlighted that the digital park will serve as an education center in collaboration with high schools, universities, and major tech companies. This partnership will enable the development of training programs focused on digital skills, job training opportunities, and pathways for high school graduates to pursue further education in technology-related fields.

Currently, the Ministry is exploring potential locations for the digital park and preparing for the necessary infrastructure development. The establishment of this park is expected to play a pivotal role in enhancing digital expertise, supporting emerging digital businesses, and creating a robust digital community that can attract local and foreign investors. This initiative is strategically aligned with the government’s vision for advancing Cambodia’s digital economy and society.

The Ministry’s approach draws valuable insights from Thailand’s experience, where the Thailand Digital Valley project is progressing well on a 12-hectare site in Chonburi province, about 80 kilometers from Bangkok. Initiated in 2018, the Thai project is now 60 percent complete and has successfully promoted new digital enterprises while offering tax incentives for both corporate and personal incomes.

With the creation of Cambodia’s digital park, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications aims to foster a vibrant digital ecosystem, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic and societal development in the digital age.
