Cambodia’s Economic Landscape Anchored by Over 750,000 Units Providing Three Million Jobs

Minister Hem Vanndy leads national strategy workshop to empower MSMEs and modernize the Kingdom’s workforce for 2026 to 2030

Cambodia currently counts 753,670 economic units across the country, which collectively support approximately three million jobs. This data was highlighted during a high-level consultative workshop focused on the draft National Strategy for the Development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) for 2026 to 2030. The event, held on February 10, 2026, was presided over by His Excellency Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation.

Drawing from the 2022 Economic Census conducted by the Ministry of Planning, the figures underscore the vital role that MSMEs play in the national economy. These units, which include a vast range of businesses and informal sector entrepreneurs, represent the fundamental workforce of the country. Beyond simply providing employment, the government and various stakeholders are now focusing on a long-term commitment to enhancing the quality of work and the overall business environment within these economic units to ensure sustainable growth.

Minister Hem Vanndy emphasized that strengthening the MSME sector is crucial for Cambodia’s future economic resilience. By formalizing and supporting small-scale businesses, the new five-year strategy aims to foster innovation, improve productivity, and ensure that the millions of Cambodians employed in these sectors can benefit from more stable and professional working conditions. This initiative marks a significant step toward modernizing the Kingdom’s economic structure and ensuring inclusive development for all citizens across the nation.
