European Union Commits Over $22 Million to Support Cambodia’s Strategic Sector Reforms

The European Union has announced a significant financial contribution to the Royal Government of Cambodia, totaling 19.5 million Euros, or approximately US$22 million, to support a broad range of sector reforms throughout 2025. This funding comes as part of a continued effort to strengthen the partnership between the two regions and was officially detailed in a joint announcement following a high-level dialogue on December 18, 2025. The meeting brought together His Excellency Aun Pornmoniroth, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and His Excellency Igor Driesmans, the European Union Ambassador to Cambodia.

The allocated budget is intended to facilitate progress in several key areas that are vital to the nation’s development, including education, fisheries, and public financial management. Furthermore, the funds will be used to promote cooperation within the framework of global investment strategies, ensuring that Cambodia remains competitive on the international stage. By focusing on these sectors, the initiative aims to build a more resilient and transparent administrative foundation for the country.

During the announcement, Ambassador Igor Driesmans highlighted the broader goals of this financial support. He noted that by enhancing transparency and establishing a robust public finance system alongside an efficient tax framework, the initiative seeks to create a more favorable business environment. Such improvements are expected to not only support immediate development goals but also to encourage sustainable investment and foster long-term economic growth.
