GAC Group and TH Automotive to Build Car Factory in Cambodia

In a significant development for Cambodia’s automotive industry, Guangzhou Automobile (GAC) Group Co., Ltd, and TH Automotive Manufacturing have secured exclusive rights to establish a GAC car factory in the country. This partnership aims to bolster local manufacturing capabilities and enhance economic growth.

The announcement was made during a press conference held on September 19, 2025. The event was led by His Excellency Chea Wutty, Secretary-General of the Cambodia Investment Committee of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, alongside Ms. Zhong Jie, Counselor for Economic Affairs and Trade Relations at the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia. Representatives from both companies were also in attendance.

His Excellency Chea Wutty extended his congratulations to GAC Group and TH Automotive for their achievement, emphasizing that this investment reflects Cambodia’s ongoing economic progress and its commitment to creating a favorable business environment. “This milestone underscores the importance of the private sector as a vital partner in Cambodia’s socio-economic development,” he stated.

The factory is expected to bring a multitude of benefits to the local economy, including job creation, technology transfer, and an enhancement of Cambodia’s industrial capacity. “We anticipate that this investment will pave the way for sustainable economic growth and expect the companies to thrive in their future operations,” His Excellency added.

This development comes at a time when Cambodia is experiencing a surge in investment, with the Cambodia Development Council registering 491 investment projects in the first eight months of 2025. This marks an impressive increase of 204 projects or 71% from the same period in 2024, alongside a rise in total investment capital by approximately USD 2.5 billion, reflecting a 50% growth.
