Cambodia Issues Over US$60m in State Securities in First Half of 2024

In the first half of 2024, the Cambodian government issued public securities worth 255.3 billion Riels (approximately US$63 million) to finance public investment projects aimed at promoting economic growth and productivity. This information comes from a report by the National Bank of Cambodia dated 31 July 2024.

The report details that one-year government securities were issued for 32 billion Riels, with an average coupon rate of 3.50% and a turnover rate between 3.75% and 3.95%. Two-year loans amounted to 40 billion Riels with an average coupon rate of 4.00% and a return rate of 4.70% to 4.75%. Additionally, three-year loans were issued at 183.3 billion Riels, featuring an average coupon rate of 4.50% and an income rate ranging from 4.00% to 5.25%.

By the end of the first half of the year, 457.3 billion Riels in securities had not been disbursed. The government made a total of 13 coupon payments equal to 4.6 billion Riels and two principal payments amounting to 28 billion Riels to state securities holders.

For the year 2024, the Royal Government plans to issue 440 billion Riels in state securities. This strategy is a key measure to raise capital, meet the Royal Government’s financing needs, and strengthen the fiscal space and public financial situation.
