Indonesia Commits to Boost Investment in Cambodia as Trade Reaches USD 1 Billion

In a significant diplomatic engagement, HE Santo Damosumato, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to the Kingdom of Cambodia, expressed his country’s commitment to attracting more investment to Cambodia. This announcement was made during a meeting with Mr. Kuoch Chamroeun, the Governor of Kandal Provincial Council, on 6 March 2025.

Ambassador Damosumato’s remarks come on the heels of a notable milestone, as trade between Cambodia and Indonesia has surpassed the impressive figure of USD 1 billion, marking a 15% increase in 2023. (Read more)

During the meeting, Governor Chamroeun emphasised the potential of Kandal province, highlighting its strategic geographical location, which is adjacent to Phnom Penh, the nation’s economic heart. He outlined a vision for 2025, aiming for Kandal to evolve into a pivotal hub for security, public order, industry, logistics, food, and housing.

Taking advantage of the meeting, Governor Chamroeun urged the Indonesian Ambassador to play a crucial role in mobilising investors to Kandal province. He pointed out the province’s advantages, including its proximity to an international airport and key national roads that serve as vital arteries for trade and investment, promising lucrative opportunities for investors.

In response, Ambassador Damosumato assured the governor of his support in attracting Indonesian investors to Kandal. He also requested that local authorities extend necessary services to the Indonesian community residing in the province, fostering a welcoming environment for potential investors.

As Cambodia continues to strengthen its economic ties with Indonesia, the future looks bright for investment opportunities in Kandal province, positioning it as a key player in the region’s economic development.
