Grand Opening of Koh Kong Tourist Port Ushers in a New Era of Coastal Connectivity for the Province

The much-anticipated inauguration of the splendid Koh Kong Tourist Port, also known as Dang Tong Port, took place on 23rd June 2023, graced by the esteemed presence of HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, alongside Lok Chumteav Phu Thong Mithona, Governor of Koh Kong Province.

This architectural marvel stands as a testament to the ingenuity and craftsmanship of Khmer artisans, boasting a modern design built to exacting technical standards, ensuring its durability and longevity. The port, with a total budget of approximately 12,897,000,000 Riels (equivalent to over US$3 million), was meticulously constructed using funds from the national budget.

The project is divided into two phases, resulting in a port that spans an impressive length of 115 meters, with a width of 16.50 meters and a depth ranging from 4 to 8 meters. These dimensions enable the port to accommodate cargo ships weighing up to 2,000 tons, facilitating seamless maritime operations.

Beyond the construction of the concrete port itself, the project, which garnered a substantial investment of over US$3 million, encompasses various supporting infrastructures. These include a concrete bridge connecting the port to a well-designed entrance, a state-of-the-art passenger terminal, an administrative building, public restroom facilities, an efficient drainage system, a secure fence, and a grand entrance gate, among other amenities.

The Koh Kong Tourist Port serves as a vital maritime link for Cambodia’s four coastal provinces and fosters economic growth and connectivity among the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries, including Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam. This strategic development marks a significant milestone in the region’s progress, opening up avenues of trade, tourism, and prosperity for all stakeholders involved.

Having undergone meticulous construction and subsequent renovations, the port stands today as a symbol of resilience and progress. In May 2021, the site was reopened as a new flagship port, fortified and reinforced to withstand the test of time and accommodate the growing demands of a thriving coastal region. (Read more)
