Cambodia-Korea Takmao Sewage Management System

H.E. Vongsey Vissoth, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Economy and Finance signed a USD63 million loan agreement on 3 April with Korea Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) President Chang Youn Soo for construction of a sewerage management system in Takmao town.

The waste water management facility will be capable of processing 7,600 cubic metres per hour and is designed with a main purifier pond connecting to 10 other sewage systems around Takmao city, a waste grille, and a total of 55.33 kilometres of pipe.

The budget will also be used to dredge a 16km long canal to renovate the old water pumping station, and also to build a new 5m x 3m water gate.

This new waste water management system will help significantly improve Takmao’s infrastructure, especially the hygiene and the cleanliness of the city, which result in improving the quality of life for local residents.

“This USD63 million fund is not the first help from the Korean Government to Cambodia; under the EDCF program Cambodia has so far signed 21 loan agreements with Korea worth a total of USD763 million, for which the budget is being used to improve the infrastructure in Cambodia,” said H.E. Aun Pornmoniroth, Senior Minister, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Cambodia.

“We really appreciate the strong cooperation from the government of Korea that always supports Cambodia, and we are doing our best to help ourselves to develop our own country,” he added.
