Land Minister Unveils Cambodia-Japan Joint Achievements in Construction Sector

The Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction HE Chea Sophara has revealed that that the Japanese government has been assisting Cambodia in many major projects within the construction and urban planning sectors.

Speaking at the Cambodia-Japan Urban Development Conference on 16 February, HE Chea Sophara expressed sincere thanks to Japan for the very close cooperation, and summarised the co-achievements as follow:

1) Construction work: Japan provided significant assistance in the establishment of the construction law, which was promulgated in 2019. In addition, Japan also supported the preparation of the three major sub-decrees. Currently, JICA is also funding projects to help improve the implementation of construction laws and ensure construction safety.

2) Land management and urbanisation: Japan has helped develop smart cities in Phnom Penh, Battambang and Siem Reap. Besides, the draft laws on land management and urban planning and human resource development have also received assistance from the Japanese government.

3) Housing Sector: Japan has cooperated in training at both legal and technical levels.

4) Cadastral and geographical work: Japan has helped develop a permanent satellite measuring station or known as the Cross-origin resource sharing (CORS).

Besides these four main sectors, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan HE Akaba Kazuyoshi said that the Japanese government will continue to do its best to share both legal and technical experience for sustainable development in Cambodia.
