Mekong River Bridge Project Nears Completion, Boosting Connectivity in Kratie

The Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge spanning the Mekong River in Kratie province is rapidly approaching completion, marking a major milestone in regional infrastructure development. According to Mr. Phon Rim, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, overall construction has reached 87.25%, with the bridge itself nearly 100% complete.

The project also includes a 32-kilometer link road network, comprising a 15-kilometer connector from the bridge’s head and four branch roads totaling more than 16 kilometers in Kratie city. These roads are being upgraded with 7-centimeter asphalt concrete pavement to ensure durability and smoother transport.

Significant expansions are underway: nearly 27 kilometers of road are being widened from 9 meters to 13 meters, while another stretch of more than 5 kilometers is being expanded from 19 meters to 30 meters. The latter will include a 4-meter green garden median, enhancing both traffic safety and the urban landscape.

Strategically positioned, the bridge connects Talus Village in Boslao Commune, Chit Borei District, to Thma Rap Village in Prek Prasap Commune, Prek Prasap District. Once complete, it will feature two vehicle lanes, two bicycle lanes, a pedestrian walkway, and reinforced abutments — totaling more than 13 meters in width.

Funded by the People’s Republic of China at a cost of USD 111 million, the Cambodia-China Friendship Bridge is expected to significantly improve local mobility, stimulate cross-river trade, and strengthen tourism potential in Kratie, further driving economic growth in the region. (Read more)
