Minister of Public Works drills road to prove no corruption

Holding two big pieces of broken rubber drilled from the road, Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol told the national press that “The ministry has now taken a new step: to make road quality better. With regard to criticism where people have said the Ministry cheats on road constructions, it does not hold true.”

The Senior Minister made the affirmative statement on 04 May 2020 after he drilled the rubber road during his technical inspection of road construction project sites on the Neak Loeung intersection, the Prey Veng town ring road, the Svay Antor intersection and in the town of Ou Reang Ou district.

The minister ensured confirmation of the rubber thickness to ensure people weren’t mistaken.

In addition, H.E Sun Chantol confirmed that “The Ministry has contracted the construction contractor to build 5cm thick rubber, but the company also poured some 5.7cm, which is thicker than we expected.”

He added, “As you can see, this is the first road with a thickness of 5cm, but when we measure it, it appears to be 5.7 cm. It is clear that the Ministry and the company did not cheat on the road projects. ”

The Neak Loeung roundabout, Prey Veng town ring road, Svay Antor roundabout and Orang Ov road construction sites are all parts of the 96.48km construction project of National Road 11 connecting National Road 1 in Prey Veng Province to National Road 7 in Tbong Khmum province. This project is financed by Chinese government aids and the Cambodian national budget totalling around US$94 million.
