Ministry of Environment & STEM Cambodia Launch Innovative Tree Growth Tracking App

In a significant step towards fostering environmental stewardship among the youth, the Ministry of Environment has announced a collaboration with STEM Cambodia to develop the CHAKRA STEM App, an innovative tool designed to monitor tree growth and enhance awareness of ecological conservation.

The memorandum of understanding was formalized during a ceremony attended by HE Mao Soveng, Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Environment, and Ms. Eang Nithijny Dene, Executive Director of STEM Cambodia. This partnership aims not only to track tree growth but also to empower Cambodian youth to actively engage in environmental initiatives.

The collaboration has set forth three primary missions:

  1. Fostering Environmental Awareness: The initiative will engage and educate young individuals about the importance of environmental care and sustainability.
  2. Innovative Tree Tracking: The CHAKRA STEM App, developed by Cambodian youth, allows users to mark locations of tree plantings and monitor their growth. This initiative plays a crucial role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions and steering Cambodia toward a carbon-neutral future.
  3. Waste Management Advocacy: The partnership also emphasises promoting effective and creative waste management practices, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment.

During the signing ceremony, Ms. Eang Nithijny Dene expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “This cooperation is crucial for enhancing the principles of cleanliness, greenness, and sustainability. It aligns with the Chakra Environmental Strategy and represents a commitment to leaving a healthier planet for future generations.”

The CHAKRA STEM App is poised to facilitate effective management of natural resources and environmental protection, providing a platform for youth to take an active role in nurturing their local ecosystems.

This collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and STEM Cambodia not only exemplifies the potential of youth-led innovation but also underscores the country’s dedication to embracing sustainable practices for a brighter, greener future.
