MLVT: Surge in High-Rise Building Constructions Uplift Demand for Skilled Human Resources

The recent surge in high-rise building constructions in Cambodia has scaled up the demand for skilled human resources in the elevator business sector to a large extent, according to the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MLVT).

MLVT Secretary of State HE Pech Sophoan made this remark at the opening ceremony of the training course on elevator-related skills on Monday 29 November.

The training course is organised under cooperation between the Institute of Industrial Technology, GGear Group, UNIDO, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)

HE Pech Sophoan said that the growth of high-rise buildings has created shortages of labour in the elevator sector such as installers, repairers and maintenance workers while adding that Cambodia still has no school offering elevator-related training to supply to the market.

“Thus, both human resources and training centres for this skill are highly needed,” he added.

According to the ministry, the opening of the training course is a starting point and a model for other technical and vocational training institutions nationwide to diversify their courses to meet labour market demand.
