MPWT Explores Rehabilitation Plans for Road Section from Koh Kong Bridge to Thai Border

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is undertaking a comprehensive study to assess the rehabilitation needs of an 8-kilometer road segment spanning from the Koh Kong Bridge to the Cham Yeam border crossing, which connects Cambodia and Thailand.

During the official inauguration of the Dang Tong Port in Koh Kong province on June 23, HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, announced that a dedicated working group from the ministry has conducted an inspection of the road section to gather crucial information for the upcoming rehabilitation process.

“We are meticulously studying and comparing the cost-effectiveness and quality of various rehabilitation options for the road from the bridge to the Cambodian-Thai border,” stated the Senior Minister.

He further mentioned that the ministry, in collaboration with a technical advisory company, is diligently exploring viable funding avenues to support the rehabilitation of this crucial 8-kilometer, four-lane road stretch.

Additionally, the MPWT is also considering the rehabilitation of the Koh Kong Bridge to enhance transportation connectivity. The ministry is currently evaluating two potential options for this project: the first involves maintaining the existing bridge while constructing a new two-lane bridge, and the second option entails the construction of a new four-lane bridge.

The MPWT’s comprehensive study and evaluation process aim to ensure the efficient and effective rehabilitation of the road section, as well as the enhancement of transit capabilities in the region. By prioritizing infrastructure development, the ministry continues to drive progress and strengthen connectivity between Cambodia and neighboring countries.
