Yunnan Investment Holding Group Pledges to Enhance Tourism with Direct Flights from China as New Siem Reap Airport Nears Completion

Yunnan Investment Holding Group, the builder behind the new Siem Reap International Airport, has made a resolute commitment to facilitate direct flights between Cambodia and China, particularly from prominent Chinese cities and provinces. The aim is to bolster tourism in Siem Reap province and pave the way for even greater advancements once the new international airport officially opens.

During a meeting between HE Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism, and a delegation from Yunnan Investment Holding Group on June 2, the emphasis was placed on increasing the influx of international tourists to Cambodia.

Mr. Qiu Lujun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, affirmed that the construction of Siem Reap International Airport is nearing completion, with successful flight tests conducted. The airport is scheduled to open its doors in October 2023, heralding a new era of connectivity. (Read more)

Additionally, he promised to facilitate direct flights between Cambodia and China by establishing air routes from various cities in Yunnan Province, notably Xishuangbanna/Sipsongpanna, directly to Siem Reap International Airport. This initiative presents an excellent opportunity to attract a larger number of tourists from the region to Cambodia.

In parallel, the Cambodian side requested the company’s assistance in creating new and enticing tourism products to captivate visitors in Siem Reap. The province boasts six major development zones, including the renowned Angkor Heritage area, the historic Siem Reap city area, Phnom Kulen, Banteay Srei, the vicinity of Tonle Sap Lake, and the emerging New Siem Reap city area.

Furthermore, both parties agreed to organize a significant tourism event to promote Siem Reap to domestic and international tourists prior to the official inauguration of the new Siem Reap International Airport.

As part of a wider effort to promote tourism, Trip.com Group, a leading online travel company, recently forged a partnership with Cambodia Angkor Air, the national carrier of Cambodia. Their collaborative marketing campaigns focus on developing Angkor International Airport into an intelligent regional hub. (Read more)
