NR 33 Rehabilitation Surpasses Expectations with Over 35% Completion Ahead of Schedule

The rehabilitation and enhancement project of NR 33 has surged ahead, surpassing anticipated benchmarks by an impressive margin of 35.12%. The infrastructure initiative, executed by China Bridge and Road Corporation (CRBC), has not only defied time constraints but also underscored the potential for swift infrastructure advancements in Cambodia.

Elevating the significance of this achievement, HE Pal Chandara, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, undertook an on-site assessment accompanied by CRBC’s technical team on 18 August 2023. The verdict was resounding—the project’s pacing had outpaced initial projections, bearing testament to the efficacy of collaborative efforts and meticulous execution.

The project’s current status, per official ministry data, showcases the substantial strides undertaken to date. The clearing and preparation phase has spanned a notable distance of 52.57km, while sub-grade road construction has been accomplished over 49.87km. Further emphasizing the swift headway, sub-base construction has covered 37.66km. This resounding progress underscores that not only is the project well underway but also that its execution is racing ahead of the envisaged timeline.

Looking ahead, HE Pal Chandara underlined the meticulous scrutiny awaiting the project’s integrity. As September beckons, a dedicated technical team, armed with precision equipment, will undertake comprehensive testing. The paramount aim is to ensure that NR 33’s execution aligns with standards of durability, quality, and performance.

While heralding this achievement, HE Pal Chandara also extended a solemn reminder to the executing agency—adherence to technical specifications and stringent safety protocols are non-negotiable. The well-being of the construction team and the safety of travelers traversing the road demand meticulous vigilance, reinforcing the commitment to harmonious and secure progress.

Reflecting on the project’s significance, it’s pivotal to highlight that the endeavor to revitalize NR 33 is underpinned by a budget exceeding US$61 million, substantiated through a concessional loan from China. This financial foundation, coupled with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s contribution and resolute approach to mitigating adverse impacts and taxes, amplifies the transformative potential of this ambitious venture.
