Phnom Penh Capital Hall Enhances Urban Development with AIMF’s Assistance

In a significant stride towards improving the urban landscape and sanitation facilities, the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration is set to inaugurate the first toilet waste treatment plant, a remarkable project undertaken with the support of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF).

Under the guidance of HE Khuong Sreng, Governor of Phnom Penh, and in a fruitful meeting held on 16 May, Ms. Arianna ARDESI, AIME Technical Advisor and Permanent Deputy Secretary in Charge of the Cooperation Program of Phnom Penh Capital Hall, discussed the project and its expected impact.

This collaborative endeavor between the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration and AIMF encompasses not only financial assistance but also technical expertise, amounting to a substantial agreement valued at 143,500 euros. The overarching objective of the project is to revolutionize public space, urbanization, sanitation, waste management, sewage treatment, as well as risk and flood management in the city. Such endeavors are vital for fostering sustainable development and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.

Among the noteworthy components of this initiative is the inauguration of the first toilet waste treatment plant, located in Sangkat Phleung Cheh Roteh, Kampoul district. Additionally, the project includes the development of essential infrastructure along the Stung Meanchey canal, Meanchey district, which has been jointly financed by the Phnom Penh Capital Administration, AIMF, Paris Capital Administration, and the European Union. The meeting between the Phnom Penh Municipal Administration and AIMF also marked a significant milestone as they signed a partnership agreement to establish AIMF regional offices for the Southeast Asian Cities Network, which will be based in Phnom Penh. This collaboration further strengthens the commitment to regional cooperation and knowledge sharing, leading to holistic urban development and sustainable growth.
