PM Hun Sen commits to transforming Sihanoukville into the most important SEZ

Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen has vowed to transform Sihanoukville into Cambodia’s most important Special Economic Zone (SEZ) which requires the government to develop critical infrastructure.

The commitment was made during a meeting between Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Mr Li Yong, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) held on 15 October.

Samdech wrote on his official Facebook page that the Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to developing Sihanoukville into a special economic zone and to be an important province that supports the development of the Cambodian economy, which the government is now paying close attention to.

“What we are paying attention to now is the reconstruction of the roads, which will cost about US$150 million to build the road and the drainage system,” Samdech wrote.

In addition, the Cambodian government will give priority to other sectors such as electricity to respond to the strong growth in construction and other development.

With this plan, Samdech also asked UNIDO to support the implementation of these priority projects.

The construction contract for 34 roads in Sihanoukville is set to be signed in November. (Read more)
