PP-SHV Expressway Opened for Trial; 9,000 Vehicles Recorded on First Day

The Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway has been open for testing since 1 October 2022, for one-month free of charge.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, on the first day, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, there were a total of 8,927 vehicles traveling on this expressway through 8 toll stations.

If 9,000 vehicle travels on the expressway per day on average, after the trial period, the Chinese firm will collect over a US$100,000 toll fee per day. Simply put, if the average figure remains at this level, it will take the company more than 50 years for the firm to break even.

During the first days, not only family tourists but trucks also transported their goods on the expressway, proving the expressway is indeed a potential economic line.

Of the nearly 9,000 vehicles, 52 were in contact with 1399 for help.
