Second Conch Cement Factory in Battambang Worth US$253m Reaches 85% Completion

Construction progress of the second Conch Cement Factory in Battambang province, valued at US$253 million, has reached a significant milestone, with approximately 85% of the project now complete. Scheduled for an official inauguration in September 2024, this development marks a crucial step forward in Cambodia’s cement manufacturing sector. The update was shared via a Facebook post by the Cambodian Oknha Association (COA) on 5 May 2024.

Neak Oknha Vinh Hour, Vice President of the Cambodian COA and Co-Founder of Conch Cement  Factory, highlighted that the second Conch Cement  Plant project covers an expansive area of 407 hectares in Battambang province and represents a substantial investment of around US$253 million. This joint venture between Cambodian and Chinese investors underscores the commitment to bolstering the country’s infrastructure and industrial capabilities.

Upon completion, the factory is poised to produce an impressive output of 5,000 tons of cement per day, equivalent to 2 million tons annually. Neak Oknha Vinh Hour further affirmed that construction commenced in August 2018 and has progressed according to plan, paving the way for the official commencement of cement production by September 2024.

Cambodia’s burgeoning cement industry currently comprises six factories, with five in full operation. Collectively, these facilities boast a total production capacity of approximately 9 million tons of cement per year. The operational cement factories include Chip Mong Inc. Cement Corporation, Kampot Cement Company, Chakrei Ting Cement Company, Battambang Consignment Cement Company, and Thai Boonrong Cement Company Limited.

The significance of the second Conch Cement Factory extends beyond its manufacturing capabilities. As noted by the representative of the Conch Cement manufacturer, the project symbolises a vital contribution to Cambodia’s economy. By generating substantial tax revenue for the government and creating employment opportunities for the nation’s youth, the factory stands as a testament to Cambodia’s commitment to sustainable economic growth.
