Prime Minister Hun Sen Orders to Keep Over 1000 Hectares to Develop SEZ at Koh Thmor Area

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia has decided to keep 1176 hectares to develop a Special Economic Zone in Techo Koh Thmor Military History X16, located in Tonloung commune, Memut district, Thbong Khmum province.

This is according to Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s remark made on the 45th Remembrance Day of “Journey to Overthrow the Pol Pot Genocidal Regime” on 20 June 2022.

“In the future, this area will be a good place for trade exchange. The producers in this area can go down to the Quy Nhon Port and can go to the Ho Chi Minh Port. But if we think about the economic benefits of the area, it can go down two roads: the road to Quy Nhon and the road to Ho Chi Minh City,” Samdech Techo Hun Sen said.

Samdech Techo added that this area could become a processing industrial area because there are many agricultural products and raw materials in the northeast area, of Kratie province, which connects these areas.

Moreover, Samdech Techo requested HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, widen the road from Koh Thmor to the border, which currently is 8 metres wide, to become a national road and that this must start in 2023.

With another new project, Prime Minister Hun Sen also has announced a project to open a new Cambodia-Vietnam border gate at Koh Thmor area, in Tbong Khmum province to facilitate travel and trade between Cambodia and Vietnam. (Read more)
