Progress Update on Bassac River Bridge Construction

The ambitious project to construct a bridge across the Bassac River, officially known as the Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra Bridge, has made significant strides, reaching nearly 31% completion after over a year of work.

Since the Cambodian government broke ground on the construction site 13 months ago, the project has reported a current progress rate of 30.95%. Officials are optimistic that the bridge will be completed ahead of its scheduled timeline.

Mr. Ou Leangwei, Deputy Director General of Shanghai Construction Company in Cambodia, shared insights on the progress, stating, “According to our plan, the bridge construction project is designed to span 42 months. With 29 months remaining, we are confident that we can finish ahead of schedule.”

The bridge is set to stretch a total of 1,650 metres, featuring an 845.70-metre main span and a road width of 27 metres, along with bridgehead access roads of similar dimensions. The project, undertaken by Shanghai Construction Company in collaboration with consultant Guangzhou Wan’an Company, is backed by an investment of USD 60.2 million. This funding includes a concessional loan from the Chinese government, as well as contributions from the Royal Government of Cambodia for critical elements such as impact management, mine clearance, unexploded ordnance disposal, and various taxes.
