Pursat-battambang Rail Line to Open on 29 May

The rail line from Pursat to Battambang is set to open for service on 29 May with free travel until the end of July, according to a Facebook post by Royal Railways Cambodia.

The Pursat-Battambang rail line is another step to completing the Phnom Penh-Poipet line following the opening of Poipet-Serey Sophorn line on 4 April and the Serey Sophorn-Battambang line on 29 April. Meanwhile, the final section from Pursat to Phnom Penh is expected to open by July.

When complete, Cambodia will have a full rail line from Phnom Penh to Poipet, which can then connect on to Bangkok by switching to Thailand’s network at the Khmer-Thai border town of Poipet.

“Connecting Phnom Penh to the Thai border is considered one of the key parts of Cambodia’s logistic master plan and is also is a part of the eastern corridor of the Singapore-Kunming Rail Link, that aims to improve the connectivity among ASEAN members,” said H.E. Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Minister of Public Works and Transport.
