Sihanoukville’s Third Wastewater Treatment Plant Worth US$20M Successfully Completed

A significant achievement in environmental infrastructure has been marked by the completion of Sihanoukville’s third wastewater treatment plant. The announcement was made following an inspection visit by the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development of Cambodia, led by HE Deputy Prime Minister Chea Sophara, on 11 August 2023.

Harnessing the cutting-edge Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor (MABR) technology, this newly operational plant boasts an impressive wastewater treatment capacity of 20,000 cubic meters per day. Its advanced design ensures efficient, noiseless, and odor-free operation, significantly enhancing the living conditions of the surrounding community while saving time and energy.

Distinguishing itself further, this expansive facility exhibits exceptional speed in the removal of contaminants such as Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD), Total Nitrogen (TN), and Total Phosphorus (TP). The innovative MABR technology completes the process in a mere 20 hours, a remarkable improvement over previous methods that necessitated up to 20 days.

Notably, the construction of this state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant was undertaken at a cost of US$20 million. Sihanoukville’s progressive approach to environmental sustainability is exemplified through its existing wastewater treatment infrastructure, including the first plant with a daily capacity of 5,200 cubic meters, serving the third area of 364 hectares in Sangkat 3. The second plant, designed to treat 7,200 cubic meters of wastewater daily, caters to the fourth area spanning 486 hectares in Sangkat 3. (Read more and more)

The third wastewater treatment plant stands as a testament to Cambodia’s dedication to a greener future, fostering the well-being of both residents and the ecosystem.
