SHV Tourism Port Set to Transform into an International Tourist Hub

The Sihanoukville Provincial Authority has officially requested the assistance of the Ministry of Tourism in converting the newly inaugurated Sihanoukville Tourism Port into a prominent international tourist port. The aim is to facilitate seamless travel and promote tourism exchange between Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

During the inauguration ceremony of the Preah Sihanouk Provincial Tourism Port on 6 July 2023, HE Kouch Chamroeun, Governor of Preah Sihanouk Province, expressed his vision to elevate the port’s status from a local tourist port on an area of more than 2 hectares to an internationally recognized hub. Governor Kouch Chamroeun emphasized the importance of aligning with the ASEAN framework, particularly in coordination with Thailand and Vietnam, to establish a unified approach for tourism flow through waterways. However, Sihanoukville currently lacks a standardized port that can accommodate international cruise ships, unlike its counterparts in Thailand and Vietnam.

In light of this, Governor Kouch Chamroeun has formally requested the support of the Minister of Tourism to transform the Sihanoukville Tourism Port into an international tourist port. The proposal will soon be presented to the Cambodian government for thorough review and approval.

By upgrading the Sihanoukville Tourism Port into an international hub, the province aims to attract a larger influx of international tourists, enhance regional connectivity, and bolster the overall economic growth of the region. This strategic initiative not only aligns with the aspirations of ASEAN integration but also positions Sihanoukville as a premier destination for travelers seeking unparalleled experiences and seamless connectivity.
