Gov’t Allocates 1,000 Hectares for Airport City Development Near New Siem Reap Airport

Siem Reap Angkor Airport Investment brings forth exciting prospects for the development of the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport. An impressive 1,000 hectares of prime land have been earmarked for an industrial and economic zone, heralding a new era in airport city growth.

The announcement was officially made by HE Vongsey Visoth, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister & Minister in charge of the Office of the Council of Ministers, during a momentous event celebrating the commencement of commercial flights at the Siem Reap Angkor International Airport on 16 October.

“In its initial phase, the international airport stands as a 4E-category airport, primed to elevate its status to a 4F-category airport in its second phase. The airport already spans an impressive 700 hectares, and an additional 1,000 hectares are meticulously set aside for the development of special economic zones, often referred to as the “Airport City” – an exciting vision for Cambodia’s future,” said HE Vongsey Visoth.

The Siem Reap Angkor International Airport is a significant testament to the nation’s commitment to progress, with an investment valued at US$1.1 billion. Nestled in the picturesque Sotr Nikum district, Siem Reap province, the airport’s strategic location, merely 40km from the iconic Angkor Wat and 51km from the vibrant Siem Reap city, positions it as a pivotal gateway for commerce and tourism. Marking a historic milestone, the official inauguration of this impressive new international airport is scheduled for 16 November 2023. The event will be presided over by Samdech Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, alongside Chinese leaders, reinforcing the international significance of this momentous project.
