Grand Inauguration: Fine Arts University Unveils Magnificent $12 Million State-of-the-Art Building

A momentous occasion unfolded in Phnom Penh as the Royal University of Fine Arts proudly inaugurated its splendid new building, a remarkable architectural masterpiece worth an impressive $12 million. Situated in Sangkat Prek Leap, Khan Chroy Changva, this four-story edifice signifies a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to excellence and artistic development.

During the inauguration ceremony, Lok Chumteav Dr. Pheung Sakona, Minister of Culture and Fine Arts, expressed gratitude to Samdech Hun Sen for his unwavering support. Through the Phnom Penh Capital Hall, the esteemed Prime Minister granted the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts a 4-hectare land concession, allocating over 3 hectares for the construction of the new Royal Fine Arts University and nearly 1 hectare for a cultural center.

The construction process commenced with the “B” building, representing the first phase of development. Executed by PT & C Engineering Co.LTD, the construction began on 2nd May 2017 and reached its completion on 13th May 2022, thanks to a $12 million investment from the Royal Government itself.

The “B” building spans an impressive total area of 47,000 square meters, stretching 196 meters in length and 45 meters in width. With four floors and a meticulously designed layout of 123 rooms, this architectural marvel boasts a modern aesthetic that harmoniously blends form and function. Furthermore, the building includes a convenient one-story underground car park, accommodating 204 cars and 500 motorcycles.

Continuing its commitment to fostering artistic excellence, the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, has earmarked an additional 1-hectare area for the establishment of a Cambodian-Korean Art Training Centre. This visionary project, with an estimated budget of approximately $5.3 million, aims to provide specialized training in music, choreography, and visual arts. Construction of the centre is set to commence soon, with an anticipated completion date of 2024.

The unveiling of the grand new building at the Royal University of Fine Arts represents a significant milestone in Cambodia’s cultural landscape.
