The Royal Sands Koh Rong Officially Opens

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen on 23 April presided over the grand opening ceremony of the Royal Sands Koh Rong, the first ever five-star resort on the island namely.

With an investment of more than USD40 million by the Royal Group, first phase of the Royal Sands Koh Rong, comprises 67 pool villas with a total of 148 rooms, with each villa equipped with its own swimming pool.

The resort is built on more than 6 hectares of land and designed with teak wood, bamboo and limestone together with many open-air venues, which allows the guests to experience more ocean and sunset views.

The grand opening of his five-star hotel demonstrates the growing potential of the tourism sector in Cambodia especially in the South-West coastal area, where significant development has been seen over the last several years.

“I am very glad to see this five-star resort on Koh Rong, and more and more island resports like this will appear in response to the growing tourism sector,” said PM Samdech Hun Sen.

“Just to clarify, Koh Rong belongs to the government, not to the private sector. Those private companies just got the concession from the government to development the area. Now we will start to recheck the concession, for those who did nothing, we will revoke the concession,” he added.
