Toyota CEO to Launch Motor Vehicle Training Academy in Cambodia

Toyota Tsusho Manufacturing (Cambodia) is set to establish a Toyota Academy in Cambodia, aimed at providing specialized motor vehicle training. The company’s director, Mr. Fujita Ryoji, announced this initiative during a meeting with PM Hun Manet on 2 May 2024.

In response, PM Hun Manet instructed the company to collaborate closely with the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training to finalise the details of setting up the school and its business model. He suggested two possible approaches for establishing the training school: either directly under the company’s management or through a hybrid collaboration with existing government training schools in partnership with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.

PM Hun Manet also encouraged Toyota Tsusho to offer comprehensive training programs, not only for potential Toyota employees but also for young Cambodians seeking opportunities in the automotive job market, both locally and internationally.

Additionally, he urged the company to consider (1) producing Toyota spare parts for both local and international markets and (2) exploring collaborations with local companies for supplying Toyota accessories.

The Toyota assembly plant in the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, valued at over US$36 million, was recently inaugurated in May 2024. This new training academy is expected to further bolster Cambodia’s automotive industry and provide valuable skills to its workforce. (Read more)
