Kratie & Stoeng Treng Welcome New Landfills Valued at Nearly US$10m

In a significant move to enhance hygiene and well-being, Kratie city in Kratie province and Stoeng Treng city in Stung Treng province have officially inaugurated two state-of-the-art landfills, collectively valued at nearly US$10 million.

The momentous occasion took place during the official opening ceremony presided over by HE Peng Po, Minister of Public Works and Transport, on 2 April 2024.

The landfill in Kratie city, a pivotal component of the Greater Mekong Subregion Corridor Development Project Phase 4, was constructed at a cost of US$4,943,948. Situated on 6 hectares of land in Phsar village, Dar commune, Chit Borey district, Kratie province, this landfill spans an area of 26.88 hectares. Designed to accommodate approximately 196,220 cubic metres of waste, the landfill measures 135.75 metres x 122.50 metres and is 2 metres deep. It serves the residents of Kratie’s four districts, namely Sangkat Kratie, Krakor, Orussey, and Roka Kandal.

Similarly, the landfill in Stoeng Treng city, also a part of the Greater Mekong Subregion Corridor Phase 4 development project, was constructed by MTA Construction Co., Ltd., at a cost of US$4,838,207. Positioned on 7.26 hectares of a total area of 20.78 hectares in O’Treal village, Thala Parivat commune, Thala Parivat district, Stung Treng province, this landfill is designed to hold approximately 176,438 cubic metres of waste. Measuring 146.06 metres x 109.52 metres, with a depth of 1.45 metres, it caters to the residents of Stoeng Treng’s five Sangkats: Sangkat Stoeng Treng, Srah Russey, Preah Bat Samaki, and Thala Parivat. These modern landfills are equipped to operate for up to 20 years, adhering to stringent technical standards to ensure sustainable waste management practices in the respective provinces.
