US Firm Aims to Create World Longest U-shaped Building

Responding to the building height limitation in New York, an architectural firm in the United States has designed the world’slongestU-shaped building.

Called ‘The Big Bend’, this stunning building has been designed by US-based architectural Oiio, and will stretch in the heart of Manhattan, New York.

Standing 4,000-foot long (about 1,219 metres), ‘The Big Bend’ was designed by Mr Ioannis Oikonomou who he was inspired by the fact that his company can create an elevator that not only runs vertically, but also horizontally.

“We usually learn about the latest tallest building and we are always impressed by its price per square foot. It seems that a property’s height operates as a license for it to be expensive. But what if we substituted height with length? What if our buildings were long instead of tall?”, the company said on its website.

If the building is to be constructed, it will become the world longest building replacing Burj Khalifa which stood at 2,722 foot long (about 829 meters).

The company used to tell CNN that it has already submitted the proposal to many companies and is currently seeking investment.
