US$100 million planned for restoration work on damaged infrastructure in Preah Sihanoukville

To restore the damaged infrastructure –roads, sewage system and build wastewater treatment system, about US$100 million has been planned for expense on restoration works and the construction is set to start at end of this month.

H.E Vasim Sorya, spokesman at Ministry of Public Works and Transport, said on Tuesday that due to the damages of physical infrastructure in some part of Sihanouk town and in some part of Preah Sihanoukville province, the national level government and sub-national level have scheduled to start works on build and restoration on August 21 or 22.

“According to the speech made by Senior Minister, nearly US$100 million is planned for the use on the project,” Mr Sorya said.

However, Mr Sorya was out of knowledge whether the budget is from the Public Works Ministry or from sub-national level.

Located 240-kilometer Southwest of Phnom Penh Capital, Preah Sihanoukville province has significantly boomed with investments, most of which are Chinese investments.

While receiving the rapid investment which has polished the sleepy coastal town to the skyscraper city, the province of Preah Sihanoukville have been criticized with poor of urbanization management from the public.

Additionally, the rainy flood has hit the coastal province, particularly Sihanouk town, size of damaged infrastructure has been expected to scale up bigger.
