Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos Strengthen Cooperation on Power Supply and Transportation Links

In a significant move towards enhancing regional connectivity, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone pledged to further develop power supply and transportation links among their countries. This commitment was made during the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 26-28, 2025.

The leaders convened to discuss the progress and future priorities of cooperation across various sectors, including the economy, trade, tourism, security, and national defense. They emphasized the importance of building stronger connectivity in transportation, electricity supply, and digital payment systems to foster economic growth and collaboration.

Highlighting urgent infrastructure needs, Prime Minister Hun Sen called on Cambodian and Lao officials to expedite site selection for the construction of bridges over the Ropov and Selamphav rivers. He also urged Vietnamese authorities to move quickly in determining locations for two key expressways: the Phnom Penh-Bavet and the Ho Chi Minh-Moc Bai routes.

In addition to infrastructure discussions, the leaders agreed to enhance tourism collaboration under the banner of “3 Countries, 1 Destination,” aiming to promote the unique cultural and natural attractions of Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. This initiative seeks to bolster tourism growth and mutual benefits from increased visitor exchanges among the three nations.

This commitment to cooperation marks a promising step towards not only achieving shared economic goals but also fostering a deeper sense of regional unity and collaboration.
